Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) 2024 concluded its five-day celebration, drawing over 8,000 animation enthusiasts and industry experts from around the globe. As the artistic directorsPietro Pinetti, thrilled to share the highlights of this premier event, organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA).

This year’s conference showcased the boundless creativity shaping the future of animation with 32 international speakers, 11 workshops, masterclasses, and 18 panel discussions. Attendees explored the latest trends and technologies, gaining invaluable insights from industry legends like Nik Ranieri and Sandro Cleuzo.

Masao Maruyama, co-founder of Madhouse, MAPPA, and Studio M2, captivated audiences with his session on transforming the manga “Pluto” into an anime. Maruyama emphasized preserving the legacy of 2D hand-drawn animation, a testament to the artistry in Japanese animation.

Meetings between publishers and animation studios, took place during the conference, fostering discussions on transforming novels into cinematic works. The SAC Awards recognized outstanding talent with the “Pitch the Project Award” and the “Book Trailer Award,” encouraging regional animators to showcase their creativity.

The conference also featured a tribute to “The Lion King” by Disney Director Andreas Deja, marking its 30th anniversary. Deja’s presentation and special screening of his short film “Mushka” offered a glimpse into his creative process, enchanting the audience with his storytelling prowess.

SAC 2024’s success was bolstered by sponsors like Toon Boom Animation, WACOM, and MSI. The closing ceremony was a musical delight with the Florence Pop Orchestra performing classic Disney soundtracks, enchanting attendees with unforgettable memories.
